Outer Banks Season 4 Plot Summary Revealed

Last time we saw the Pogues was at the end of Season 3, where 18 months had passed since they found the gold in El Dorado. They were still grappling with the deaths of Ward (Charles Esten) and Big John (Charles Halford), but they took a moment to understand and accept their hard-fought victory. As co-creator Shannon Burke mentioned, “They couldn’t have completely lost in Season 3.” Co-creator Josh Pate added, “We knew we had to give them a win, but it became a complicated win. We wanted viewers to feel they had achieved something and that it wasn’t all for nothing.”

In the 18-month flash-forward from the previous season, the Pogues are offered a chance by Wes Generett (David Jensen) to search for Blackbeard’s treasure. Season 4 takes us back in time to prepare for that moment. After finding the gold in El Dorado, the Pogues return to OBX and resolve to live a “normal” life. They’ve created a new safe haven for themselves, officially called “Poguelandia 2.0,” where they live together and run a successful bite, tackle, and charter tour shop.

However, due to financial issues, John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo are forced to reconsider Wes Generett’s proposal. Drawn back into the world of treasure hunting, the Pogues find themselves facing dangerous new enemies who are after the treasure, racing against time to secure it.

Meanwhile, their problems are escalating, and they are forced to confront questions about their identity, their past, and their readiness to take risks for one another.

Season 3 raised the stakes higher than ever before, and the creative minds behind “Outer Banks,” executive producers and creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Burke, wanted fans to truly feel the strength of the Pogues’ friendship. “Amidst all the action and adventure, it’s really about the bond between friends,” Burke said. But most importantly, Josh Pate wanted viewers at home to feel that “there’s still more to come.”

Outer Banks Season 4 Announcement

And where else, but Poguelandia! In February 2023, Poguelandia took over Huntington Beach, California, with an immersive fan event that recreated the Pogues’ island paradise. All the Pogues were on stage, joined by some of the most entertaining Kooks—Drew Starkey and Austin North. During the event, they announced that Season 4 was coming… even before Season 3 had premiered.

At the edge of the stage, Stokes told the crowd that they were the first to hear the news: “Outer Banks has been renewed for a fourth season!” He took a moment to thank fans for sticking with John B, the Pogues, and even the Kooks for three and a half years. He said, “It’s an incredible moment for all of us.” He also thanked his cast and crew, saying, “Thank you so much for all your hard work.”
