You is based on novels written by Caroline Kepnes. The story revolves around Joe, a book lover and a hopeless romantic, but he has a habit of stalking and killing the women he claims to love, as well as eliminating anyone who gets in his way.
The search for The One (true love) began in New York, which took him to Los Angeles in Season 2, then to the suburbs of San Francisco in Season 3, and most recently to London in Season 4. There, caught up in a murder mystery among the world of the ultra-wealthy, he is finally forced to admit that he is not a good person.
An undeniable truth that he had been ignoring for a very long time. At the end of the season, Joe returns to New York City with his wealthy partner Kate and a dangerous new life, a life he has finally accepted as fundamentally unethical, which Badgley has expressed a desire to explore more deeply.
Although very few details have been revealed about the final season, we do know that it will introduce Joe’s new extended family. Griffin Matthews (The Flight Attendant) has been cast as Kate’s (Charlotte Ritchie) brother, while Anna Camp (She/Her, Hysteria!) will play dual roles as Kate’s twin sisters. Additionally, Madeline Brewer (She/Her, The Handmaid’s Tale) will portray a young woman who forces Joe to reconsider his new life.

We get a glimpse of many people wronged by Joe over the past four seasons. For example, characters like Dr. Nicky (John Stamos) from Season 1, who was wrongfully imprisoned, orphaned Ellie (Jenna Ortega) from Season 2, and the wealthy Conrads (Shalita Grant and Travis Van Winkle) from Season 3 are mentioned. However, Badgley cannot say at this time which of Joe’s remaining victims will return in Season 5.

However, Penn Badgley’s anti-hero, Joe Goldberg, never thought that his search for true love would take him where it did; the show’s creative team had already planned it. In a statement made in March, executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble mentioned that they had always envisioned it as a ‘five-season journey.’
Sera Gamble, the executive producer who co-created You with Berlanti, is stepping down from her role as showrunner for Season 5 to focus on other projects. In her place, long-time You writer Michael Foley, who has been with the series since Season 1, and Justin W. Lo, who joined in Season 2, will take over the showrunning responsibilities.
