Dave and John Chernin, best known for their work on “It’s Always Sunny for Philadelphia,” are directing Netflix’s upcoming film “Incoming.” This movie aims to revive the nostalgic vibe of 2000s high school comedies, reminiscent of films like “American Pie.”
The story revolves around a group of high school boys navigating through their adolescent life, crushes, friendships, and more. The main plot of this R-rated film focuses on what happens after they attend their first high school party and how an unforgettable night spirals into chaos.

Dave and John drew inspiration from their own experiences for directing this movie. Having a long-standing desire to create a high school comedy, this project seemed like the perfect choice for them. In a 2023 interview with Netflix Tudum, John Chernin shared, “I remember Dave and I sitting by a window with the lights off, watching this raging high school house party in the backyard next door, thinking it was the craziest thing I’d ever seen.”
Supporting John’s statement, his brother Dave added, “We’ve always wanted to write a high school movie. For the past 15 years, we’ve been working on the idea of a high school movie, and we had these little moments that we kept jotting down in our notepads.”

Even though audiences have drifted away from teen romances and high school comedy genres, the Chernin brothers believe that some people can still connect with this story. They further explained that this type of film not only attracts young viewers but also offers a chance for every generation to laugh.
The movie follows a group of four freshmen boys—Benj, Hugh, Sam, and Caden. Despite being underdogs, they try their luck and attempt to make something of themselves. They attend their first high school party, which is supposed to be fun and entertaining, but it turns into a series of hilarious mistakes, embarrassing situations, and more. Without the use of cellphones or social media, the movie exudes an old-school charm that feels authentic and comedic in every sense.

Incomig Trailer review
The story of “Incoming” is simple and to the point: “Four freshmen face the greatest challenge of their young lives: their first high school party.”
When I watched the trailer, one thing that particularly stood out was that none of the teenagers had a phone in their hand. This alone suggests that this story is from a different time. Additionally, the filmmakers deserve credit for making a movie about teenagers—and casting actual teenagers to play those roles. What a novel concept!
